A cornerstone of this responsibility is the mandatory personal inspection of the property, which is a foundational requirement for any technical report filed under NI 43-101. This visit is critical because it allows the QP to become personally familiar with site conditions, directly observe the property’s geology and mineralization, and independently verify the technical work previously conducted on the ground. By personally visiting the site, the QP can assess "less tangible" elements such as access issues, social license, and environmental concerns that are difficult to evaluate remotely. While historical regulations allowed for the deferral of a personal inspection due to extreme seasonal weather—specifically for early-stage exploration properties—proposed modernization of the rules seeks to remove these exceptions to ensure at least one QP inspects the project before any disclosure is filed. During this visit, the QP must complete a structured set of compliance tasks, including confirming legal tenure and property boundaries, verifying physical logistics and infrastructure, and conducting detailed geological observations of outcrops or drill cores. Crucially, the visit serves as a key component of data verification, where the QP must review sampling procedures, QA/QC protocols, and chain-of-custody documentation to validate the integrity of the data supporting the technical report.
