The Klondike Schist in Yukon is renowned for its gold-bearing quartz veins, which have historically been the source of extensive placer gold deposits. Recent research has highlighted a significant form of gold mineralization in the region, with disseminated gold occurring without the presence of quartz veins. This form of mineralization is often found near orogenic veins and is associated with chlorite alteration and weak silicification. Comparisons with similar geological environments, such as the Otago Schist in New Zealand, show that disseminated gold can occur in areas with low arsenic levels. The discovery of disseminated sulphides and pyrite in these schists extends the scope for exploration in the Klondike region, offering new potential targets for large-scale, low-grade gold deposits.
