In this video, we explore the mineral potential of Pakistan, specifically focusing on the geological significance of the Tethys Belt. This tectonic boundary, which once separated supercontinents, is a remnant of the ancient Tethys Ocean and stretches from the Eastern Mediterranean through Iran and into the Himalayas, including Pakistan. We know the Tethys Belt for its porphyry deposits, which are large, low to medium-grade deposits rich in valuable minerals such as copper and gold. The paper presents real case studies, such as the Golden Mile in Kalgoorlie, Australia, and the Bingham Canyon Mine in Utah, USA, which exemplify the practical importance of geochemical data interpretation in successful mining ventures.

Scientists have found an extraterrestrial meteorite with hexagonal diamond crystals. Before they found them in four meteorites in north-western Africa, scientists didn't believe they existed. Despite hexagonal rather than cubic atom arrangements, their chemical composition is carbon. Because these crystals were so tiny, it was challenging to determine whether they were hexagonal diamonds.
Using an electron microscope, they examined 18 meteorite samples for bigger crystals. They found four African meteorites to contain hexagonal diamonds, some of which were up to a micrometre in size, or 1000 times larger than known crystals.
The discovery of lonsdaleite, a rare hexagonal form of diamond that may be more durable than regular diamonds, in ureilite meteorites that were formed in the mantle of a far-off dwarf planet was made by the researchers. About 4.5 billion years ago, a huge asteroid and the dwarf planet may have collided, creating the lonsdaleite.
