Geochemical exploration plays a vital role in identifying potential mineral deposits, but complex geological conditions often make it challenging to accurately delineate areas of interest. Traditional statistical methods for identifying geochemical anomalies and determining background thresholds can be limiting as they may not fully account for the spatial distribution and scale variations inherent in geochemical data. This video explores a study conducted in the Zaduo area of Qinghai province, China, which utilized advanced data processing techniques applied to stream sediment survey data to overcome these limitations and better identify prospective mineral zones.
The study employed multifractal analysis, an effective method for examining self-similarity and singularity in geochemical fields, to obtain more objective and accurate thresholds for geochemical anomalies compared to conventional statistics. By analyzing element associations through techniques like factor analysis, specific groups of ore-forming elements such as Ag, Pb, Zn, and Cu were identified. Combining the insights from multifractal characteristics and element associations, the researchers were able to delineate prospective metallogenetic zones and specific prospecting anomalies, providing valuable guidance for future exploration work in the area.
